Introduction:
In 2017, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed a lawsuit against a company known as JetCoin and its founder, alleging that they had engaged in fraudulent practices in connection with a cryptocurrency investment scheme. The allegations in the lawsuit were that the defendants had engaged in the scheme in an attempt to defraud investors. Nonetheless, the case has been put on hold since then, and there have been some new developments linked to both the case itself as well as the attorney who is defending one of the defendants in the case.
In the past, there was a cryptocurrency investment scam known as JetCoin that lured customers with the promise of high returns on their initial capital. JetCoin and its inventor, Ravid Yosef, are accused by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of using social media and other internet channels to promote their scam, which they said was supported by a proprietary trading algorithm. The CFTC, on the other hand, claimed that the defendants did not have such an algorithm and were, instead, operating a Ponzi scheme, in which they used the money from new investors to pay off money from older investors.
In April 2018, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) initiated a legal action against JetCoin and Yosef, claiming that they had violated both the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC rules. The lawsuit asked for monetary and other types of civil fines, as well as restitution and injunctive remedies.
Development 1: Case Stayed
The court decided to put a hold on the lawsuit until March 2020. The CFTC had not been successful in serving the defendants with the complaint, which led to the stay being issued in their case. It seems that the defendants, who are headquartered in Israel, were difficult to identify, and the CFTC was unable to impose service on them via regular routes.
The CFTC was allowed the time they requested to investigate other potential means of delivery after the judge granted their motion to delay the lawsuit. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) said that it was investigating the possibility of providing services via email, social media, or publishing in Israeli newspapers.
At the time this article was being written, there had been no more updates about whether or not the CFTC had been successful in serving the defendants or whether or not the case will proceed.

Development 2: Aggesen’s Attorney Issue
Michael Ackerman, who is one of the defendants in the JetCoin case, has an attorney, however, there have been recent problems with that counsel. This is a different development in relation to the JetCoin case.
Mark Karlsson, a Danish national who is also the promoter of JetCoin, had been represented in the dispute by the attorney Ackerman, who is headquartered in Florida. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), on the other hand, submitted a petition in March 2021 attempting to have Ackerman disqualified from representing Karlsson.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) alleged that Ackerman had a conflict of interest since he had previously represented Timothy Atkinson, who was also a defendant in the case. In a separate proceeding, Atkinson entered a guilty plea to criminal charges relating to the JetCoin conspiracy and promised to cooperate with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) maintained that Ackerman’s representation of Karlsson was directly detrimental to Atkinson’s interests and that the continuation of Ackerman’s representation of Karlsson would constitute a breach of Atkinson’s rights.
In a response, Ackerman stated that there was no conflict of interest because he had not represented Atkinson in connection with the JetCoin lawsuit and because he had not represented Atkinson before. Ackerman further contended that Karlsson’s ability to have the counsel of his choice protected by the Sixth Amendment would be violated if he was disqualified.
The motion filed by the CFTC to disqualify Ackerman has not yet been decided upon by the court. Nevertheless, the court proceeding for this matter is scheduled to begin in July 2023, and it is still unknown if Ackerman will be authorized to continue defending Karlsson in the proceeding.

Conclusion
Due to the challenges involved in serving the defendants in the JetCoin case, the proceedings in this legal issue are still underway but have been suspended. There have been updates about the attorney who is defending one of the defendants, Michael Ackerman, while the case is on pause for the time being. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has been trying to have Ackerman disqualified from representing his client on the grounds that he has a conflict of interest.
